Meet our cruise expert, Kit – CLIA certified Cruise Master and co-founder of Silver Compass alongside Ben.

Hi – I’m Kit.

I’m the resident Cruise Expert here at Silver Compass; travel is what drives me but my real love is cruise, finding new places, new experiences, new people and new cultures.

My life in boats began at age 14, in small dinghies with oars or a sail. I moved to bigger sailing boats as an adult and have indulged my passion to be on the water ever since, now more often on a cruise of one sort or another. I have since sailed on many ocean and river cruises, a 5-masted tall ship, expedition cruises and small ship adventure cruises.

Some of my proudest achievements are becoming a CLIA Cruise Master – one of the most highly qualified cruise experts in the south west – and helping a number of clients discover a love for cruise.

Some quickfire cruise facts…

First cruise (other than “self-drive” boating and sailing holidays)
Cabin charter on a catamaran sailing in The Grenadines.

Best cruise
That’s such a tough one as they’re all so different, but the most memorable has to be a 4-night cruise sailing on a small Chilean vessel (Stella Australis) through the Chilean Fjords, as part of a longer land tour through Chile and Argentina.

Most fun to arrange
(I really couldn’t choose with this one, so I’ve narrowed it down to three)
– A wedding onboard a Royal Caribbean ship, sailing in the Caribbean
– A catamaran cabin charter in Cuba for a mother and her twenty-something son
– A luxury cruise on a mid-size ship for a new-to-cruise couple who weren’t initially sure they would like it. After spending some time looking over the options, they felt confident about my recommendations and went ahead with the booking – it was really satisfying to be able to help them discover a newfound love for cruises.

Last cruise
A 6* ultra-luxury cruise across the Atlantic from London to East Coast Canada and New England, with Silversea.

Next planned cruise
A barge sailing from Paris to the Champagne region of France.
